The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is a centrally sponsored scheme by the Ministry of Education to support academically talented students from economically weaker sections.
Eligible students studying in Class 8 in government, government-aided, or local body schools can apply, provided their parental income does not exceed ₹3,50,000 per annum.
The scholarship provides ₹12,000 annually (₹1,000 per month) from Class 9 to Class 12, subject to academic performance. Selection is based on a state-level exam comprising a Mental Ability Test (MAT) and a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Students must score a minimum of 40% in each test (32% for SC/ST).
Applications are submitted online via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), where students must complete registration and verification. NMMS plays a vital role in promoting education among underprivileged students and empowering them to pursue academic success.
