The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has decided to conduct GATE 2025 exam next year from February 1 to 16. The exams will be held in two shifts: forenoon and afternoon sessions. The institute has announced exam dates through an official notification on gate2025.iitr.ac.in/important-dates.html.
Shift-wise GATE 2024 Exam Dates
Next year, GATE exam will be held on the following four dates:

What is GATE Exam 2025?
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam is organised for admission to Master’s programmes or postgraduate engineering (ME/MTech) or analysis courses. Through this exam, candidates can apply for admission to top institutes in India such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, among others.
GATE 2025 Registration Dates
However, GATE exam 2025 dates have been announced. But still, registration dates are yet to be revealed. We expect the IIT Roorkee to open the GATE 2025 registration window in the last week of August 2024.
GATE Exam Mode
GATE 2025 exam is a computer-based test (CBT). So, it will be held online at respective exam centres. There will be two papers in exam and the duration is 3 hours for each paper.
GATE Exam Total Questions
The GATE exam question paper will have a total of 65 questions which are further divided into the general aptitude section and core disciplines. The following type of questions will be asked
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)
- Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions
GATE Exam Total Marks & Negative Marking Scheme
The paper is held for a total of 100 marks which consists of 85 Marks for the Questions from the chosen subject and 15 marks for general aptitude. Some questions will carry 1 mark and some will carry 2 marks.
Question type wise GATE Marking Scheme
- MCQs –
- 1 mark for each correct answer;
- 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
- MCQs –
- 2 marks for each correct answer;
- 2/3 marks will be deducted for every incorrect response.
- No negative marking for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions
- NO negative marking for MSQ & NAT.
