Who is eligible for NMMS?

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is a scholarship scheme to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections. Here are the eligibility criteria for NMMS:

Academic Eligibility

  • The student must be studying in Class 8 in a government, local body, or government-aided school.
  • To continue receiving the scholarship in later years (Classes 9 to 12), the student must:
    • Score at least 55% marks in Class 8 (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).
    • Maintain a minimum of 60% marks in Class 10 (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST) to continue receiving the scholarship in Classes 11 and 12.
    • Pass each academic year with a clear promotion to the next class.

Parental Income Limit

  • The annual income of the student’s parents from all sources should not exceed ₹3,50,000.

School Type Eligibility

  • Eligible:
    • Students studying in government, local body, or government-aided schools.
  • Not Eligible: Students studying in:
    • Private schools
    • Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV)
    • Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV)
    • Residential schools run by the government or private institutions
