CAT Normalization Process 2024 – CAT exam being a large scale examination is conducted in three shifts i.e morning, afternoon and evening. Since the paper for each shift is different and thus difficulty for each paper is also different, some being easy and some being tough.
So to avoid any discrimination with students on the basis of shifts, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has deduced the method of CAT Normalization process 2024 for scaling and equating scores across all formats.
After the process of CAT Normalization 2024 process, the scaled scores are converted into percentile on the basis of which students get their desired colleges according to CAT Cut Off 2024.
Parameters of CAT Normalization 2024
Parameters on which the CAT Normalization process 2024 and final composite score depends:-
- Scaled Score of CAT 2024 result
- Class 12th marks
- Class 10th marks
- Graduation scores
- Work Experience
- Diversity (Gender & Academic)
Method of CAT Normalization Process 2024
Calculation of CAT composite score 2024 is done to bring the level of each shift to a common level, so there is no extra advantage given to any student based on the shift they got. For simpler understanding of CAT Normalization process 2024, let’s take a simple example:
- Suppose there are three students – A,B,C, each of them appearing in different shifts.
- Suppose Student A gets 110 marks, B gets 90 marks and C gets 100 marks, this indicates that student A’s shift was a bit easier than B’s shift.
- Thus now to normalize the effect of variation in difficulty in each shift, we can calculate the mean of all three students and subtract some marks from Student A’s score and add some marks to Student B.
- This will bring the scores of all the students on a same level, which will reduce the discrimation to a large extent.
However, the calculation of actual normalised CAT score 2024 is a bit different from the above example.
Actual process of CAT Normalization Process 2024
- Calculate the mean (m1) and standard deviation (s1) of the raw scores for one section for the students who appeared for CAT in morning shift.
- The average score for one section of morning shift is: G1 = m1 + s1
- Following the same above process, calculate the average score for afternoon shift: G2 = m2 + s2
- Some students appear in both morning and afternoon shift, calculate the average score for them also as G3 = m3 + s3
- Thereafter, get the mean of raw scores of top 0.1% morning shift students and denote it by M1.
- Similarly calculate the average of raw scores of 0.1% students of afternoon shift and denote it by M2.
- Now, count the mean of the top 0.1% both shift students’ score and denote it by M3.
Now if there is a student who appeared for morning shift and has a score “r”, so the new CAT composite score 2024 ( R ) will be:
R = (r – G1)(M3 – G3)(M1-G1)+G3
Similarly, if the student appeared in afternoon shift, the CAT normalised score 2024 will be:
R = (r – G2)(M3 – G3)(M2-G2)+G3
FAQs Related to CAT Normalization Process 2024
Why is the CAT 2024 Normalisation Process important?
Since the CAT 2024 paper is conducted in different shifts, so there can always be some variation in the difficulty of paper, because of which some students who appear in easier shift can score much more than other students, thus to avoid any such undue advantage, IIMA has deduced this CAT 2024 Normalization process which will scale the score of students at the same level.
How is the raw score for Normalization Process CAT 2024 calculated?
According to CAT Normalization process 2024, the raw score = 3 x (No. of correct answers) – 1 x (No. of incorrect answers).
What is the scaling of marks in CAT 2024?
The scaling of marks in CAT 2024 means changing the marks of students based on the raw scores of all the students and the shift in which students appeared in the CAT 2024 exam.
