GRE Syllabus 2025 – Educational Testing Service (ETS) has prescribed two sets of syllabus for GRE General Test and GRE Subject Test. These tests serve as yardsticks to measure the General skills and sound of subject knowledge gained by candidates. GRE General Test helps evaluate a candidate’s verbal reasoning ability, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, analytical writing skills. Whereas the GRE Subject Test helps evaluate the subject knowledge of candidates including chemistry, Psychology, Mathematics and others.

GRE Syllabus 2025 for General Test includes three sub-sections that includes

Weightage of Verbal Reasoning is 40 questions with 1 point increment.

This section covers three subdivisions like Text Completion, Reading Comprehension and Sentence Equivalence. Candidate’s reasoning ability, interpreting ability to understand word, paragraph, also to understand the concept, etc.

GRE Analytical Writing Syllabus 2025
The syllabus included in Analytical Writing section is of writing tasks. Timeline for each writing task is 30 minutes. The topics included are

- Analyse an Argument
Marking scale of the section is 0-6 with 0.5 point increment. To get more GRE score in Analytical Writing, candidates must improve their reading and writing ability and also their vocabulary skills. For this purpose, candidates may read newspapers, articles, editorials & Journals, etc.
GRE Subject Test Syllabus 2025
GRE Syllabus 2025 for Subject test includes the following subjects.

GRE Biology Syllabus 2025
Though Biology was one of the subjects for the GRE Subject Test, it was later discontinued after the 2021 GRE Subject Test. Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, Ecology & Evolution are the chapters included with weightage of 190 questions in this section.
GRE Literature in English Syllabus 2025
Just like Biology, Literature in English is also omitted from the GRE Subject Test Syllabus from 2021. Literary Analysis, Identification, Cultural and Historical Contexts, History and Theory of Literary Criticism are the chapters included in English with a weightage of 230 questions.
GRE Mathematics Syllabus 2025
Algebra, Calculus and Additional Topics are important chapters candidates are required to focus to score more in this section. Weightage of the questions in this portion is 66 multiple choice questions.
GRE Physics Syllabus 2025
Candidates should focus on following chapters to improve their scores in this section. The weightage of questions in this section is 100 five-choice questions. The questions are set based on diagrams, experimental data, graphs, etc. The topics to be covered are:
