As per the newly released CBSE syllabus, there will be only one board exam for the Urdu subject as the Board has removed the term-wise exam for the CBSE Urdu subject.
CBSE Class 10 Urdu Detailed Syllabus 2025
The class 10 Urdu syllabus is divided into two courses, i.e., Course A and Course B. Both of the Urdu courses are divided into four sections. The detailed syllabus of both course A and course B is mentioned below. Candidates can check the same below.
CBSE Class 10 Urdu Syllabus (Course A)
Course A Urdu syllabus consists of the following topics.
Reading and Comprehension
The reading and comprehension section contains the seen and unseen passages of 10 marks each. The unseen passages will contain prose and poetry of 100-150 words and 5 lines of poetry. The candidates need to answer the questions asked in the question paper according to the passage. Both prose and poetry will be of 5 marks.
The seen passage in this section will also contain the prose and poetry each of 5 marks. The candidates have to do the same as in the seen passage and answer the questions accordingly.
Writing Skills
The writing skills will contain everything required to check the writing skills of a candidate. The candidates will be asked to write an essay on different topics such as ‘Berozgari’, ‘Aalodgi: Ek sangeen masla’, ‘Badhti hue aabadgi k masle aur un k hal’, ‘Global Warming: Ek Khatra’, etc.
The other formal topics which the candidates would be asked about include, ‘Darkhawast’, ‘Shikayat nama’, and formal and informal letters, etc.
Grammar
The grammar section of the Urdu syllabus will be 20 marks containing all the questions related to Urdu grammar. The grammar section contains five parts where the first three parts will be of 05 marks and the other two will be of 02-03 marks.
This section requires candidates to have a strong hold on urdu grammar.
Literature
The literature section will be of 15 marks with three parts. The literature syllabus will contain questions from the Urdu literature sections. Candidates need to answer the questions properly and study according to the syllabus.
CBSE Class 10 Urdu Syllabus (Course B)
CBSE class 10 Urdu syllabus (course B) has the following topics in it.
Reading and Comprehension
The reading and comprehension in course B will contain the seen and unseen passages of 10 marks each where the candidates will have to answer the questions related to the passages. The question will be from the passage only and the answers should be relatable.
There will be one poetry and one prose from both the seen and unseen passages of five marks each. Questions will be given according to the passage and the candidates need to answer according to the passage.
Writing Skills
In this section the candidates will be asked to write a 200-word essay on any one of the following topics, such as, ‘Mazhabi Tauhar’, ‘Qaumi Tauhar’, ‘Sagar K Halat’, ‘Pasanddeda Shakshiyat’, ‘Mere Walidain’, etc.
In the second part of the writing section, the candidates will be asked to write a formal and informal letter based on topics such as, ‘Darkhawast’, ‘Mafi’, ‘Shadi mai Shirkat’ etc.
Grammer
The grammar section will be 20 marks containing idioms and stories. Grammar

Literature
The Urdu Literature section will be of 15 marks where the questions will be from the literature part containing topics from the book, ‘Jaan Pahechan’, ‘Door pass’, etc.
